Def Leppard Tickets
One of the bands associated with the new wave of heavy metal in the early 1980's was Sheffield, England's very own Def Leppard.
The band was created in 1977 with lead singer Joe Elliott, bassist Rick Savage, guitarist Pete Willis and drummer Tony Kenning. Kenning was eventually replaced by Rick Allen and a second guitarist, Steve Clark, joined the band in 1978.
The band began making its presence felt in the early 1980’s with albums like "On Through The Night" and "High And Dry." The song "Bringin' On The Heartbreak" from the second album got the band major exposure in the United States. After replacing Willis with Phil Collen, the band recorded its first major smash album, "Pyromania."
The "Pyromania" album proved to be a superb hit all over the world, with songs like "Photograph," "Rock Of Ages" and "Foolin'" becoming radio and MTV staples. The album sold over 6 million copies and it looked like they were well on their way to rock immortality.
On New Year's Eve 1984, though, their train was derailed somewhat when Allen crashed his car on a winding road in England. The accident left him without his left arm. Determined to continue drumming, he worked with Simmons drum company to design a unique electronic drum kit that allowed him to do some of the drumming by foot that he'd normally do with his left hand. The band returned to the stage for the Donington Monsters of Rock festival in 1986, and a year later released "Hysteria," which went on to be an even bigger smash hit than "Pyromania."
The "Hysteria" album stayed on the charts for over two years and included a slew of top 10 hits for the band, including "Pour Some Sugar On Me," "Hysteria," "Armageddon It" and their only number one single, "Love Bites." It became only the third album in rock history to chart seven singles in the top 40 and has sold an amazing 18 million copies.
The band was hit with heartache again as they prepared their next release, "Adrenalize." Clark had battled alcoholism for some time and was in the midst of a six-month hiatus when he died of a drug and alcohol overdose. The band went on and enlisted the services of Vivian Campbell. This lineup has been together ever since, releasing a number of albums during the past 15 years.
Def Leppard's newest album, "Songs From The Sparkle Lounge" is set to come out in the spring, and the band will make a stop at the Qwest Center Omaha on Sunday, August 17. Get your tickets at Ticket Express – where no event is ever sold out.
