Seattle, Washington is known for its rainy weather, its coffee and some of America's best rock and roll. And while some may associate Seattle with the angst-rock of Nirvana, it was two sisters from the Emerald City who first put the city on the rock and roll map.
Ann and Nancy Wilson started the band Heart in the early 1970's and showed that women can rock just as hard as the guys can. Songs like "Barracuda," "Crazy On You" and "Magic Man" helped them develop a foothold on the rock scene, and they were one of the top acts of the mid and late 70's, carrying on well into the 80's.
The band hit a short lull in the early 80's, but the release of their self-titled album in 1985 put them back on top of rock's hierarchy. Songs like "Never," "What About Love" and "These Dreams" had the sisters in the driver's seat and they continued touring and putting out quality albums throughout the rest of the 80's.
The sisters took time off in the 90's. Nancy Wilson married filmmaker Cameron Crowe and they collaborated on projects such as "Jerry Maguire" and "Almost Famous." Older sister Ann, meanwhile, continued with some side projects and the sisters reunited under the name The Lovemongers with longtime collaborator Sue Ennis and Frank Cox and performed around their hometown.
The sisters brought Heart back together in 2002 and put out "Jupiter's Darling" in 2004, their first studio album in over a decade. The band continues touring and recording and the sisters put out an album of cover tunes.
