Journey Tickets
Journey is on the road this summer with Cheap Trick and Heart, and you can get tickets for their Tuesday, July 22 show at the Mid-America Center at Ticket Express – where no event is ever sold out.
Starting out as more of a jazz-fusion band, Journey evolved into one of the top arena rock acts of the 70's and 80's, producing a vast combination of foot-stomping rock and soaring power ballads that made them one of the most popular bands of their generation.
Neal Schon, who first came to prominence as a member of Santana in the early 70's, formed the band along with bassist Ross Valory, drummer Prairie Prince, guitarist George Tickner and keyboardist Gregg Rolie. Eventually, Ansley Dunbar came on as drummer and the band hired vocalist Steve Perry to join the band in 1977.
The band quickly took off after that. "Infinity" was the first of a string of platinum-selling albums for the band, and hits like "Wheel In The Sky" and "Any Way You Want It" quickly found their way to radio. Albums such as "Evolution" and "Departure" furthered their status in the rock stratosphere, but it was the "Escape" album in 1982 that really blew the band's popularity sky-high. The first song written by Perry and new keyboardist Jonathan Cain, "Open Arms" became a huge pop hit and was one of three Top 10 hits from the album. "Who's Crying Now" and "Don't Stop Belevin'" became huge favorites for their growing legion of fans.
In 1983, the band came out with their "Frontiers" album, which combined rocking anthems such as "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" with soaring power ballads like "Faithfully" to create another monster album for the band. Creative tensions, however, began to take their toll and Perry ventured into the solo realm for his own "Street Talk" album in 1984. Valory and Steve Smith – who replaced Dunbar after the "Infinity" album – were let go and the trio of Perry, Cain and Schon produced one more album, "Raised On Radio" before splitting up.
Schon and Cain formed the band Bad English and put out two albums in the early 90's, but the magic that was Journey was just not there. The band reunited in 1996 for the "Trial By Fire" album, but Perry did not continue with the band after that tour. The band continued on and recently celebrated their 30-year anniversary with a tour and a new album, "Generations."
Neal Schon on guitar, Jonathan Cain on keyboards, Ross Valory on bass, Deen Castronovo on drums and new lead singer Arnel Pineda will be on tour this summer to promote their upcoming release "Revelation," the highly anticipated three-disc CD/DVD package set for release June 3 exclusively at Wal-Mart stores in North America.
