Nebraska Husker Volleyball at Home
It has long been said that the only sure things in life are death and taxes. The Nebraska Husker women's volleyball team winning at the NU Coliseum has to be a close third, though. In fact, there are fewer sure things in all of college athletics than the Nebraska Husker women beating an opponent in the 80-year-old building.
Since the program's beginning in 1975, the Nebraska Husker volleyball team has called the NU Coliseum its home (with the exception of the 1991 season, when renovations were made to turn the facility into its current 4,030-seat configuration).
Nebraska Husker Volleyball National Champions
The Nebraska Husker volleyball team has also been outstanding away from home. That success has led to numerous All-American and national player and coach honors, nine Final Four appearances and three national championships. The Huskers won their first title in 1995, and in 2000 became just the second team to go undefeated and win a national championship.
In 2006, the Nebraska Husker volleyball team claimed its third national championship, playing before an NCAA tournament-record crowd of over 17,000 at the Qwest Center in Omaha, located about 60 miles east of its home floor. The Huskers beat Stanford to claim the school's third national title and second under coach John Cook, who served as an assistant to longtime coach Terry Pettit – the architect of the Husker volleyball dynasty. |
